WCU Hillel offers a variety of holiday observance opportunities. These include Shabbat dinners to High Holiday interactive services, to on-campus activities for all interested students!
Every Friday at 6:30pm, students come together for a FREE Shabbat meal. This allows students to unwind, bring in Shabbat together with their friends, and enjoy a unique Jewish experience. We also offer DIY Shabbat experiences, such as “Shabbat in a Box” where students can pick up a box full of the Shabbat “essentials”. Each year we also celebrate Family Weekend, with our Family Shabbat Dinner, where families are encouraged to join their students for a delicious meal on campus. We strive to make our Shabbats creative and unique with fun themes, such as SuperBowl Shabbat, “Brinner” (Breakfast for Dinner) or Italian Shabbat!
WCU Hillel hopes to provide students with multiple opportunities for High Holiday experiences. We offer informal “drop-in” services throughout the school days on the High Holidays, led by our Rabbinic Intern. We also help students find ways to celebrate the holidays off campus at our local synagogue Kesher Israel. Lastly, we provide a traditional Rosh Hashanah dinner and Yom Kippur Break the Fast meal.
Besides Shabbats and High Holidays, we provide many meaningful learning opportunities and fun programs so students can celebrate other Jewish holidays and memorials through the year. These include: Sukkot, Hanukkah, Purim, Passover, Yom HaShoah, Yom HaAtzmaut, and Yom HaZikaron.
